about

for flute, cello, piano, and long tones
in four realizations
created for Slaapwel Records (slaapwelrecords.com)
artwork by Jon Fischer (feather2pixels.com)

musicians:
Sasha Launer - flute
Crystal Pascucci - cello
Katy Luo - piano

notes:
Like many, I am drawn to man-made structures that have been reclaimed by the elements. After my grandparents died, I had these strange recurring dreams of the church they went to - a dark, elaborate sanctuary, wrapped with moss and vines, being overgrown and reclaimed by something older than itself.

What happens when music is given over to the elements, so to speak: written over, misremembered, left to crumble and erode? Will it too become something older, more primal than itself? And after this has happened, is it possible to feel the presence of what was once there before - a kind of ghost that hovers in the air, in between the notes, unheard but looming at the edge of our senses?
